This is a historic site. It’s where Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo stepped out of his boat in 1542 and became remembered as the first European to touch the west coast of the United States.

Visiting the Old Point Loma Lighthouse should be on everyone’s San Diego bucket list. It was built in the 19th Century and it steered ships to safety for over 30 years. When we visited the Cabrillo Cave, we also saw some cute sea lions. 

Gaslamp Quarter

Gaslamp Quarter is the best place to find San Diego night attractions. It’s an urban district with many hotels, restaurants and rooftop bars. There’s also concert halls, art galleries, nightlife, and shopping.

Nearly 100 historic buildings sit in the 16 blocks of Gaslamp Quarter, so it can be a great place for San Diego sightseeing.

Torry Pines is known for its untouched beaches. It’s also a sanctuary for migrating birds. However, it’s most remarkable features are the namesake Torry Pine trees that grow here. It is the rarest species of pine trees native to the United States. It’s a legendary species because of its strength and persistence.

Torrey Pines State reserve

The Torrey Pines live in unimaginably harsh conditions. They cling to sea cliffs where they are blasted by sand, at the mercy of storms, and experience frequent drought. Learning more about this incredible species is one of the important things to do in Torrey pines nature reserve. 

Hiking at Torrey Pines is another one of the fun things to do in San Diego for adults. The Guy Fleming trail takes you to 2 dramatic lookouts. It’s a short loop less than 1 mile total. The Broken Hill trail is recommended for visitors who desire a more intense workout.

Potato Chip Rock

Potato Chip Rock is one of the most popular places on this map of San Diego tourist attractions. It’s a challenging hike that’s 7 miles out and back. The hike takes you up 2,000 feet and it will take 3-4 hours to complete.

There’s a small parking fee, so it’s not exactly one of the San Diego free attractions. Although, it’s budget-friendly. 😃

This place has become Instagram famous in recent years, and it’s known to be one of the cute places in San Diego to take pictures. 

To get to Potato Chip Rock, you’ll drive 30 minutes outside of San Diego. The hike starts at Lake Poway Park. This is where you’ll park!

It’s best to arrive as early as possible. Since this is one of the fun things to do in San Diego, it’s also one of the places that can get crowded. 

There are a few ways to access Potatoe Chip Rock, but the Lake Poway route is preferred. This will ensure you’ll pass the most scenic viewpoints along your way.

Mission Trails Regional Park
