Mendoza Travel Tips
You’ll need to rent a car.
The Mendoza region is a BIG area. It’s a large province. Many of the Mendoza tourist attractions are a great distance away from one another.
You’ll absolutely need a car (or to hire a car) if you want to get around. The main destinations include Mendoza downtown, Maipu, Lujan de Cuyo and the Uco Valley.
Here is a rough estimate of driving times:
Mendoza airport to Mendoza downtown 20 minutes
Mendoza airport to Maipu 30 minutes
Mendoza airport to Lujan de Cuyo 40 minutes
Mendoza airport to Uco Valley 90 minutes
It’s also worth mentioning that some of the hiking near Mendoza requires extensive travel. We drove over 3 hours from Lujan de Cuyo to drive to our trek at Mount Aconcagua.
I recommend renting a car when you visit Mendoza. It will allow you to visit many more places. You’ll also have the flexibility to do what you like.
Alternatively, you’ll have to book tours in Mendoza for each day.
You should visit different wine regions.
The Argentina wine regions include Maipu, Lujan de Cuyo and the Uco Valley are vastly different. The Uco Valley is known for jaw-dropping mountain scenery, but it’s also the furthest away and somewhat remote.
Lujan de Cuyo is much more populated, with higher altitude grapes. It’s also closer to downtown. While Miapu is closest to downtown and easy to bike around. Each region has a unique style and history.
No Mendoza itinerary would be complete without a visit to each of these wine regions.
Prices vary by season.
Mendoza is home to relatively mild temperatures year-round with especially warm summers. Prices for hotels can be much higher December though March (during peak season).
If you visit June through August, you’ll enjoy much cheaper fares. This is winter in Mendoza, but it’s not so bad! Average temperatures during Mendoza’s winter months are 35° – 65°F.
There’s a lot more to do in Mendoza besides wine!
You can visit thermal hot spring, raft along rapids and trek mountains in Mendoza Argentina.
One of the top things to do in Mendoza is climbing to base camp at Mount Aconcagua.
You must enjoy horseback riding, cooking classes, and fine dining.
